To develop a vegetated greenway along the canal, Director-General Tsai Sheng-Fu of the Agency of Irrigation and Farmland (AIF), Director Chen Ying-Shih of the Chianan Irrigation Management Office, Vice President Chen Shih-Hsien of Chi Mei Corporation, and 50 new employees of Chi Mei planted 100 native Koelreuteria elegans beside the Chianan Canal diversion route near Wushantou Reservoir. Over the next five years, more than 500 trees and shrubs will be planted.

To promote the Taiwan National Greenway and support the agricultural net-zero policy, AIF has established the “Tree Donation and Maintenance Procedure.” Taihan Electric Wire & Cable became the first company to apply. On the eve of the Yoichi Hatta Memorial Ceremony, AIF, Taihan, and local teachers and students planted trees along the Taiwan National Greenway near Guantian Canal in Tainan.

The Chianan Canal connects Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan with Taiwan’s longest national greenway for cyclists—the Taiwan National Greenway, launched in March. This route invites cyclists to enjoy the soothing sound of flowing water while passing through vibrant canal-side villages. “We are riding along a miniature pilgrimage route,” said Wu Mao-Cheng, Director of Taijiang Branch, Tainan Community University.

The Council of Agriculture held the inauguration ceremony for the Taiwan National Greenway and a tree planting event in Dongshan District, Tainan. President Tsai Ing-Wen and Premier Su Tseng-Chang joined local schoolchildren in planting trees and expressed appreciation for Wu Mao-Cheng’s grassroots efforts in initiating the Chianan Canal greenway project…

The National Development Council proposed seven national greenway routes, including the Taiwan National Greenway along the Chianan Canal, spanning 88 kilometers via the Zhuo Main Line (40 km) and North Main Line (48 km). The project is jointly managed by AIF and the Yunlin and Chianan Irrigation Management Offices. County Magistrate Weng Chang-Liang and students from Nanxin Elementary School planted a row of Bischofia javanica trees along the canal to enhance local greenery…

The Council of Agriculture held simultaneous tree-planting events in Tainan, Chiayi, and Yunlin as part of the Taiwan National Greenway. Teachers and students from the Little Taijiang Initiative promoted public-private collaboration and environmental education, advocating for the creation of the Mountain-Ocean-Junction and Chianan Canal Taiwan National Greenways. On this day, 20 representatives cycled from Haowei to Huang Gong along the Mountain-Ocean-Junction National Greenway and reached the North Main Line section to celebrate the greenway’s inauguration…
