TAIWAN NATIONAL GREENWAY

The TAIWAN NATIONAL GREENWAY is a dedicated cycling path designed to follow the historic Jianan Irrigation Canal, a century-old waterway. The route is anchored by the Zhuo Main Line and Bei Main Line, extending from the Farmland and Water Resources Heritage Museum at the Yunlin Management Office in Linnei Township (northern end) to Regulating Gate No. 4 in Xinshi District (southern end), making it the longest dedicated cycling path in Taiwan.
Spanning three counties and cities (Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City), the 105-kilometer greenway traverses seven aqueducts—Puzi River, Bazhang River, Jishui River, Guizhong River, Duzaitou, Guantian River, and Zengwen River—as well as three inverted siphons at Beigang River, Pizitou, and Nanjing. Along the way, cyclists will encounter hundreds of hydraulic structures, offering an immersive experience of Taiwan’s rich irrigation heritage.
This greenway interconnects agricultural landscapes, cultural landmarks, and industrial history, reviving the legacy of the Jianan Irrigation Canal. As cyclists ride across the vast Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Plain, they can appreciate the seasonal transformations of agriculture and the diverse ecological environment. More than just a cycling path, the TAIWAN NATIONAL GREENWAY serves as a vital link between local communities, travelers, and rural traditions, preserving and celebrating Taiwan’s deep-rooted irrigation culture.
