Yunlin Straw Sauerkraut Festival
Initiated in 2011 to preserve the traditional craft of straw weaving, the Dapi Straw Culture and Arts Festival transforms the rural landscape into a “Straw Kingdom.” The festival features rhymed couplets, painted bamboo hats, straw mazes, traditional games, and rice-themed delicacies, showcasing the unique characteristics of rural life. Over the past decade, it has promoted the spirit of craftsmanship and environmental sustainability by returning straw to the land.
Sweet Sugar Season in Huwei
Huwei Sugar Factory is the only sugar factory in Taiwan that still uses narrow-gauge trains to transport sugarcane. From December to March each year, visitors can enjoy the charming sight of these trains traversing the countryside between Huwei and Baozhong, offering a nostalgic glimpse into Taiwan’s sugar industry heritage.
Yunlin International Puppets Arts Festival
As the recognized hometown of Taiwanese glove puppetry, Yunlin has hosted the Yunlin International Puppet Theater Festival since 1999. The festival integrates local customs and beliefs, presenting a unique form of traditional puppet art. By inviting international puppet troupes, it fosters cultural exchange and ensures the continuous innovation and development of this traditional art form.
International Band Festival
Since its inception in 1993, the Chiayi City International Band Festival has evolved from performances by five school bands into a city-wide celebration involving the entire community. Recognized by the Tourism Bureau as one of Taiwan’s premier international cultural events, the festival has hosted significant gatherings such as the Asia-Pacific Band Festival and the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference, earning Chiayi the nickname “City of Sounds.”
Dancing of Light and Shadows-Light Festival
First held from October 1 to November 1, 2020, the Chiayi City Light and Shadow Art Festival combines the city’s cultural heritage with themes of the four seasons and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Featuring light installations across parks, water reflections, and forested areas, along with performances such as drone light shows and laser projections, the festival draws both domestic and international tourists to experience Chiayi’s unique urban charm.
Guanziling Hot Spring and Gourmet Festival
Guanziling Hot Spring, renowned since the Japanese colonial era, is famous for its natural mud springs believed to have beautifying and health benefits. The annual Guanziling Hot Spring Food Festival, organized by the Tainan City Government, offers a blend of traditional Japanese-style festivities, local cuisine, and cultural performances. Visitors are invited to experience the therapeutic hot springs and the region’s culinary delights throughout the year.
Taiwan International Orchid Show
With over a century of orchid cultivation history, Taiwan has developed a diverse and export-oriented orchid industry. The Taiwan International Orchid Show stands as a premier platform for showcasing Taiwan’s orchid varieties, drawing global attention and fostering industry collaboration. The event highlights Taiwan’s leadership in the global orchid market and its commitment to innovation and excellence.
International Dragon Boat Championships
As the birthplace of dragon boat racing in Taiwan, Tainan has a history of over 300 years in this traditional sport. The Tainan City International Dragon Boat Championships combine cultural heritage, tourism, and athletic competition, promoting international exchange and celebrating local culture. The event encourages public participation and contributes to the growth of cultural tourism in the region.
