TAIWAN NATIONAL GREENWAY

TAIWAN NATIONAL GREENWAY is a “dedicated bicycle path that traces the flow of water and inherits culture”, with the century-old Chianan Irrigation Canal as the main route, strung together by Cho Main Route and Northern Main Route, starting from the Yunlin Management Office’s Irrigation Relics Museum in Linnei Township in the north, and ending at Regulating Gate No. 4 in Xinshi District in the south, to build the longest dedicated bicycle path in Taiwan. The bicycle path crosses three counties and cities (Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City); along the path, it passes through 7 aqueducts, including Puzi River, Bazhang River, Jishui River, Guizhong River, Duzaitou, Guantian River, and Zengwen River; and three inverted siphons, including Beigang River, Pizitou, and Nanjing; as well as hundreds of hydraulic structures, with a total length of 105 kilomters. This greenway interconnects agricultural landscapes, human sceneries, and industrial history, it recreates the splendour of the century-old Chianan Irrigation Canal, to build a canal imagery rich in cultural connotations. Cycling through the vast Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan plains, enjoying the changing agricultural landscape and diverse ecological environment in four seasons, makes this longest dedicated bicycle path that connects the lives of residents and travelers to the culture of the countryside.
